Hi, I would like to buy a 22m long liner fishing boat to ply in Indian waters budget of $75000 is it possibl ?

I am seriously looking to buy an economical long liner of about 20 m 50 T which would catch deep sea fishis along coast of India and Colombo. I have a budget of $75000. Is it possible to buy a ship at that rate ? what about buying old ships & what are the complications in getting leased ships ? Also after buying leave it to some management company so that they would manage the ships. So can any one throw light on this issue since I am very much new to the marine field. Also I have specific doubts like how to maintain the ship (or) who will if I leave it to a management company, whether it will be the company or me. also about the crewing and about the type of contract and the economy that is the return over the invest ment that I may put. I greatly appreciate any answer I searched deep into net and couldnt find any answer & am seriously looking into investment option to make my future. thanks

  1. Depending on what you want as a ROI, should dictate whether you will go with a full menu of management services or a combination of your sweat equity and some management services. What kind of fishing do you hope to do? If you are "new" to the marine industry you should know that it can be highly speculative. While it sounds glamorous ... you can lose your shirt in an instant. Any used vessel is going to be taking a chance. Personally I would advocate for a used naval vessel. You may not get much for $75K but at least it will be relatively well-maintained depending on the country you are buying it from. At any rate you should have a naval architect (NA) survey the vessel before you purchase it. Also, you might find a very reputable broker and specify what you are looking for. Sometimes the commission you pay these guys are well worth the money if you get a good broker with a long list of satisfied customers. Good luck ... Sounds like quite an adventure.
