Animal Shelter Wants Proof That We Own Our Home Before We Adopt?
We have decided to adopt from an animal shelter but we had been told that we would need to show proof that we own a house (or rent something). I can see how we could do it if we rented - by showing the contract, but the thing is, we own a house. So what do we need to bring as a proof of ownership, what kind of a document? Thanks a lot :)

- You should have papers from when you bought the house. You could take the payment book or a bank statement from your monthly payments. You could also take electricity statements etc. However, this only says you pay the electricity haha. I would look for the purchase papers or get something from the bank like a monthly statement. Some loans come with a monthly statement book instead of sending one out every month. That is what you would use for proof of owning a house. Hope this helps~
- I guess you can show your permit or something but i'm am not sure. I volunteer at our Humane Society where people come to adopt animals and we used to have trips just to visit your house to see if its acceptable to have another living thing there but we don't do that any more. Try asking them what proof is! And if they don't have a suggestions on proof, then they have no right to tell you to bring proof!
- Just take them a copy of your phone, utility or any other bill that`s in your name. If they need more than that, I guess you could bring them your mortgage payment book! If they want more proof that that, well, that seems to be a little much. I guess they are just trying to get a good home for their animals! Good luck!
