My landlord refuses to add a new roommate on to an existing lease, what are my legal options?

A new roommate joins after I made a lease agreement with a landlord. I requested the landlord to add the new roommate onto the lease but she refuses. Do I have any legal options?

  1. Check with your state - the landlord should not be obligated to accept a new tenant, as you are the one that the lease agreement was made with. Perhaps the roommate can be a sublease, or you guarantee in writing that you will cover any costs from the roommate
  2. None.......you signed it............
  3. Just because the landlord refuses to place your new rommate on the lease, does not necessarily prevent your new roommate from living on the premises, as your guest. In which case, you are responsible for all his actions, while your roommate resides in the apartment. Good luck!
