  1. Yes rent to own is a legitimate way to purchase property. You want to make sure that the house is where you are wanting to live so that you will not move out before you have honored your contract so that you do not lose the investment money that you are earning from the equity that you are purchasing. You will want to do the title search to make sure that the seller has the right to sell this property or if there are other on the deed to get all their signatures so that when you are getting ready to put permanent financing on this property there want be any claims file againt the property that you are not aware of. You also have the right to sell your contract to a new buyer and let them purchase the home and you get the extra funds from the sale. If the house is $100K and you pay your down payment make notes for 6 months and decide that you do not want to purchase and have someone that want to purchase you still sell it for $100K but you get the different in what owed to the original seller on your contract and what the new buyers purchase to take over your contract and own the property. Rent to own work well when you do not want to at the start of a purchase go through conventional financing.
