how do i word a letter that i am signing a commerical lease agreement under duress?

My legal council reviewed the agreement and made changes - the Leesor did not agree to changes and said "i make the rules, it is my space, take it or leave it". We started out as parnters and now have split due to his business practices and personality. My equipment is in leased space (over $80K to move - which i don't have) and i have no option if i want to continue to operate the business. I just want to say i signed the agreement because i had no other reasonable or feasible choices, it will be notorized. How do i say this, and do i have to provide him with a copy?

  1. I would say make comments on it when you sign it. But you are signing his agreement I really don't think it will matter.
  2. You don't sign it if it is under duress. Yes, you have to provide the landlord a copy. You don't have an agreement if neither one of you agree to the contract, by signing it whether you put that it was done under duress or not, you are signing saying you agree with it, even if you put that notation. By you putting that in, and making changes to it he isn't or doesn't have to agree to your changes & can white them out, cross them out, or whatever he wants to do to them.
  3. Signing Under duress is usually only acknowledged if you are being threatened. Or being coerced illegally.
