What is the best way to go about renting to own a home?

Do we need to seek a Realtor to help us or is there a reputable online site for Renting or Leasing to own homes in northern california. Thanks! I live in Berkeley/Oakland (94618) Thanks!

1. You need a realtor for a "rent to own" or other owner financing situation. Not many people can actually do this, they owe mortgages. Send me your city and I will see if I know anyone who is not a crook there. Rentals are generally not handled by real estate agents in CA, but you can try contacting a rental agency, they are agents, but that is all they do. They would not be able to help you with a purchase.
2. Landlord is correct. But if you cannot fond one there are some listed in the paper in most cities. Once you find one get the details then get it inspected for defaults and roofing etc just so you are not getting a pig in a poke so to say. Always pay by check only as when you can get bank financing then you will need ap paper trail to do so. Try to get that done within a year or two of signing the agreement as you may or should have better terms than owner financing I am a mortgage banker in TN & KY
