Do the Spanish rent or own their homes?

I have a project due in Spanish class at the end of May, and I can't seem to find this anywhere on the web. I need to know whether or not people in Spain rent their homes, own them, or if they are "government owned." HELP!

  1. You can purchase property in Spain, so it's more than likely a similar system to what we have in the US where you can buy or rent. I'm not sure what the government housing situation is. http://www.spainrei.com/Buy-Prop.shtml
  2. and also there are government houses, called "houses of official protecction" they are made to families with low rent and they are always > of 90m2, but you can also buy them. The only homes that are owned totally by the government are the civil guards houses in the barracks (a civil guard is as a militar police, i don't know how to say in english)
