does property tax come in effect if you own a home or land?
i own a home and lease the land, do i have to pay property tax even not owning the land?

- You have to pay property tax on the home. The owner of the land that you lease, pays property tax on the land.
- Your lease should tell you who is responsible for what.
- You owe taxes on what you own. I owned a condominium, so technically did not own the land the unit was on, but I still paid property tax on the assessed value of the condominium. The owner of the land pays taxes on the land, but is free to pass this expense to you in your rent, if the laws allow.
- Yes, and it sucks. Sorry, didn't mean to be so blunt but it does. If you feel yours isn't fair, you do have the opportunity to appeal the tax your property was assessed for.
