Me and my fiance' are currently renting a house for 475mnth but there is no chance of owning it in the future. plus the plumbing is messed up. we have an oppurtunity to rent-to-own a house for 550 a month but the man that owns it is still in the contract with a realator until february. we really need to get oout. the house is a fixer upper but at least we would be able to own it. would any of you take this offer. plus it comes with some land and he will let me have my dogs. only consern is that if someone wants to buy it before february then we have 90 days to get out. What should we do????

  1. just wait until feb and then rent to own.
  2. sure, but you want it in writing that you get 100% of extra money /downpayment refunded if they sell to someone else.
  3. Evaluate the pro's and con's. What about insurance on the house, repair bills, etc..Right now the landlord is obligated to cover those expenses. You move then you are...I would wait until February. If its meant to be, it will be available and over the next 3 months you do some homework on expected costs, insurance, repairs etc..
  4. I would not rent to own any house. I have seen too many people lose the money they put into the house when the owner decided to let their kids have the house. If you are going to consider this please have a real estate attorney draw up the contract so that you are protected. Under no circumstances should you enter into an agreement while the house is listed with a Realtor.
  5. Most of these are scams. You need to verify the owner can "rent to own" to you, ie make sure there are no liens on the property. You can never own the property until he pays those liens off. This is a common way to con a non-refundable deposit from a renter.
