Can you get help from the state with rent if you own your home?
I used to rent and when I was really broke I could get help with my rent through Section 8 or HUD. I own my home now with my husband and 2 kids and the bills are becoming overwhelming and we can't do it. I don't want to be one of those people that forcloses their home. I love my home and would never leave even if forced out. Do they also help with those who own their home, or do they think that since you bought it it's your problem or something? HELP!

- I'm not an expert, but I don't think they will help you pay your mortgage. They will however put you in a program that will assist you in refinancing your home to pull out equity and pay off your debt.
- I don't know of any government program that will help you with your mortgage payments.
- sorry I don't know of any program out there for homeowners...you are already in a good position now that you own...HUD is typically there for people who can't afford to own... always remember you can sell BEFORE foreclosure
- Sorry, but no there aren't any such programs. Look into refinancing at a lower fixed interest rate, or you can contact the mortgage company. The lender will probably be willing to work with you a little by letting you negotiate a lower payment for a few months rather than defaulting completely. Most people don't realize it, but lenders don't want you to go into foreclosure because they typically lose money on it, usually they are willing to make other arrangements if they are contacted by the borrower.
- Start with Fannie Mae, 1-800-7FANNIE (732-6643). They can get you in touch with a local lender that know FHA programs. Or check with your state website. Maybe restructuring your loan is what you need. The bottom line is you have to be able to afford the home you buy. To answer your last question, yes, it's your problem and no one else's. Good luck!
- Amy, take a moment to hug ur kids and hubby. now relax cause things aren't nearly as bad as possible. 1st do a written budget, don't lie to urself put down where the money went. 2nd pay for food (cash only) u can live to fight agin. 3rd pay house mortgage beats living in cars. 4th pay for utitilies beats a cold room and shower in december. 5th pay transportation costs - got 2 carloans ? sell one get a cash car. 6th with what ever is left pay ur credit slave bills. may i suggest a reading of '48 days to work u love' d.miller . a good book for going forward and plenty of fresh reference material and ideas u'll need.. the other one is 'total money make over' d.ramsey helps our folks retain their cash. spending less and getting more value from their paychecks. our associates have a mandatory read of the books.
